“Instead of getting the help she needed, we have this nightmarish situation on our hands,” said attorney Ali Koussan.
"We're going after all responsible parties," Koussan said. "Not only Mr. Blanks on the civil end, but the hospital and anybody else who's responsible for the actions that happened there."
"Based on what we know so far, which isn't everything. Things don't add up. There's certainly gaps in the story in the narrative that we need to answer," -Ali Koussan.
Attorney Ali Koussan is now representing Selena's family as they seek information about what school officials may have been aware of in the hours leading up to the teen taking her own life.
A Michigan mother, Maisoon Renick, is suing a school and its principal following the tragic suicide of her 14-year-old daughter, Selena Perez, who took her own life after being sent home from school. Perez, a freshman at Annapolis High School in Dearborn Heights, was allegedly under the influence of drugs when authorities sent her home alone. Renick is seeking damages totaling $25 million, alleging wrongful death and gross negligence against the school district and Principal Aaron Mollett. The lawsuit claims that the school failed to enforce its code of conduct, which should have resulted in a 10-day suspension and parental notification. Mollett is accused of allowing Perez to leave school without seeking medical treatment or notifying her guardians of her altered mental state, leading to her tragic death. The family is seeking justice and answers regarding the circumstances surrounding Perez's passing.
The family of Selena Perez has now filed a lawsuit in federal court against the district - the superintendent Tyrone Weeks and principal Aaron Mollett. Court filings ask for at least $25 million in damages.
